19 Jun Lisbon South Bay attends MIPIM 2019
For the fifth consecutive year, Baía do Tejo/Lisbon South Bay was present at MIPIM, the largest international real estate fair, which took place in Cannes, France. A “unique opportunity”, emphasizes Sérgio Saraiva, administrator of Baía do Tejo, to reaffirm the importance of the brand to international investors, also admitting that “it could not fail to be present, establishing our policy of coherence and constancy in the promotion of potentialities of the territories we want to qualify”.
It should be remembered that Lisbon South Bay is a brand created by Baía do Tejo, created to promote the territories of the former industrial areas of Siderurgia, in Seixal, the Baía do Tejo Business Park, in Barreiro, and Margueira, in Almada.
Because this is a project with the “recognized commitment and involvement” of the local authorities, this year also includes the mayors of Almada and Barreiro, Inês de Medeiros and Frederico Rosa, respectively, and the councilor of Seixal, Maria João Macau, wanted to be present at this edition of MIPIM, in a promotional action that has the direct support of Invest Lisboa.
A partnership that, in the words of Sérgio Saraiva, “has followed the best practices, in terms of promoting cities and regions”, similarly to what the city of London does, for example. “Although London does not need to be at MIPIM to promote itself, it does so in a broader scope”. Just as the Lisbon region will have to do, believes the administrator of Baía do Tejo, to assert itself as Europe’s Atlantic gateway.
“Our focus is the partnership between the three territories, but it is always necessary to look at a larger scale. If Lisbon as a region wants to be an important city, in Atlantic terms, it has to grow and it has to encompass not only the center of Lisbon, but the entire region. And, in that perspective, Lisbon South Bay, or the Arco Ribeirinho Sul will always have a say”.
MIPIM is considered one of the most important events in the global real estate market and the presence of Lisbon South Bay, held in partnership with Invest Lisboa, was marked by the participation of Sérgio Saraiva in the debate “Lisbon & Oporto: New European and Atlantic Hub for Investment ” as part of a panel that also included the presence of Rui Coelho, director of Invest Lisboa, Peter Holden, director of Development at Round Hill Capital, Ricardo Valente, Vice-President of the Municipal Chamber of Porto and António Gil Machado, Director of Iberian magazine Property
The balance of this year’s participation of Lisbon South Bay and InvestLisboa was “very positive”, with the presence of more than twenty Portuguese partners, and Sérgio Saraiva emphasized that all the windows are essential to show the world the potential of the territories from the south bank: “We continue to promote, specifically, the project for the city of water and the territories we have in Barreiro and Seixal, in the expectation that more investments will be made, such as that of Hovione.
The arrival of the pharmacist in Seixal is a tangible result of what was the Lisbon South Bay promotion strategy and which allowed a multinational like Hovione to look at these territories as part of this great region of Lisbon. Being at the biggest international fair is always a consolidation of this work”, concluded the administrator.
